Ethylene urea

FORMALDEHYDE SCAVENGER

Ethylene urea is a formaldehyde scavenger, which reduces at different extent the formaldehyde content in various industries like leather, textile and construction.

Due to its carcinogenic character, the presence of formaldehyde in leather continues to be a subject of great concern.

By using formaldehyde scavengers like Ethylene urea, it is possible to reduce the formaldehyde content in the final product.

Ethylene urea is effective formaldehyde scavenger in amino-resins like urea-formaldehyde (UF), melamine-formaldehyde (MF) or melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) condensates.

CAS No.: 120-93-4

Ethylene urea is a colorless to yellow solid with a faint specific odor.

Synonyms: Ethylene urea, 2-Imidazoleidinane, N,N Ethylene urea, 2-Imidazolidone, 2-Oxoimidazolidine, Imidazolidinone, monoEthylene urea

Ethylene urea is a member of ureas and an imidazolidinone

Ethylene urea serves mainly as a formaldehyde scavenger and chemical building block in the leather, textile and construction industries.

Ethylene urea is also used in construction and coatings industry applications.

Ethylene urea is an organic intermediate used in various chemical industries.

Ethylene urea was originally used as a raw material for the production of dimethylol ethylene urea thermosetting resins in textiles and paper.

Ethylene urea is also used as a scavenging agent to reduce the free formaldehyde in phenolic, melamine, glyoxal and urea formaldehyde resin systems for the coatings, construction and textile industries.

Application of Ethylene urea:

Ethylene urea can be very affective at scavenging formaldehyde in various resin systems.

Reduction of 75% can be achieved depending on application conditions and the resin system properties.

We recommend using 2-5% of Ethylene urea in most applications.

The exact of Ethylene urea amount needed would depend on many variables, but laboratory experimentation should be performed to establish optimized dosage.

Storage conditions:

Ethylene urea has a shelf life of at least twelve months from the date of delivery; if stored in original unopened containers at temperatures not exceeding 30°C (86°F).

Continued storage beyond

The designated shelf life does not necessarily mean the material cannot be used.

However, renewed testing of the most important properties is imperative.

Imidazolidinone or imidazolinone is a class of 5-membered ring heterocycles structurally related to imidazole.

Imidazolidinone features a saturated C3N2 backbones, except for the presence of a urea or amide functional group in the 2 or 4 positions.

The 2-imidazolidinones are cyclic ureas.

1,3-Dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone is a polar solvent and Lewis base.

Drugs featuring this ring system include emicerfont, imidapril, and azlocillin.

Dimethylol ethylene urea is the reagent used in permanent press clothing.

Ethylene urea is a heterocyclic chemical compound.

Ethylene urea is composed of an imidazolidine core (fully saturated imidazole) with a ketone function on the carbon between the two nitrogen atoms.

Ethylene urea is used as a herbicide and insecticide. Ethylene urea is found in particular in the chemical structure of vitamin B8.
