2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is used in anti-freeze products, indoor use as a processing aid, indoor use in close systems with the minimal release (e.g., cooling liquids in refrigerators, oil-based electric heaters), and outdoor use in close systems with minimal release (e.g., hydraulic liquids in automotive suspension, lubricants in motor oil and brake fluids).
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is widely used in esters for PVB film plasticizers and synthetic lubricants, metal soaps for paint driers, and automotive coolants and PVC stabilizers. 
Other application areas of 2-Ethylhexanoic include wood preservatives, catalysts for polyurethane, and pharmaceuticals.
Automotive
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is used in the production of corrosion inhibitors for automotive coolants.
Coatings
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) as a monomer synthesizes alkyd resins, providing improved yellowing resistance than standard fatty acids. 
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is particularly suitable for stoving enamels and two-component coatings.  
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is also used as a raw material for metal-based paint driers.
Lubricants 
2-Ethylhexanoic acid (2-EHA) is a major raw material for polyol esters used in synthetic lubricants.
