2,2-Dimorpholinodiethyl ether (DMDEE) is a specialty amine catalyst used in the production of flexible foam, high-resilient (HR) molded foam, and in coatings and adhesives

DMDEE catalyst is a high boilng catalyst for use in flexible polyester-based foams, semiflexible foams and HR moulded foams.

DMDEE catalyst can be used in one component moisture- cured system to provide a stable prepolymer that can undergo rapid cure.

DMDEE is also used as a catalyst in polyurethane insulating foams released under pressure or from pressurized cans, in hot melt urethane adhesives, in the formation of flexible orthopedic casts, and in warm melt adhesives used in book binding applications.

Category: Amines and Catalysts

Dimorpholinodiethylether (“DMDEE”) is widely used in one component moisture cured systems.

These systems are isocyanate prepolymers that contain a catalyst, e.g., DMDEE.

DMDEE catalyzes the water-isocyanate reaction of the prepolymers upon exposure to water, e.g., moisture in the air or added water.

However, to provide adequate shelf life, the catalyst must provide good isocyanate stability to avoid side reactions which gel and harden the prepolymer prematurely.

These side reactions are generally branching reactions resulting in biuret and allophanate formation and some formation of isocyanate trimer.

Isocyanate stability can be tested by adding a catalyst to toluene diisocyanate and observing the formation of solids

DMDEE is a tertiary amine catalyst for the production of polyurethane foam, especially suitable for the manufacturing of polyester polyurethane foams or for the preparation of one component foams (OCF)

DMDEE is a 2,2-dimorpholinodiethylether amine.DMDEE acts as a very selective blowing catalyst.

DMDEE provides a stable prepolymer system.

DMDEE is excellent for one-component systems. Used in adhesives.

DMDEE catalyst is a high-boiling amine that can be used in flexible polyester foams, HR moldedfoams, and moisture-cured foams and coatings.

DMDEE catalyst is a good blowing catalyst that does not cause cross-linking.

When used in moisture-cured systems, it provides a stable prepolymer with a rapid cure.

It can also be used in flexible polyester-based urethane foams, as well as semiflexible foams and HR molded foams.

DMDEE is an amine blowing catalyst. DMDEE is used in rigid foam sealant systems as well as for flexible slabstock foams.

DMDEE is suitable for processing by extrusion blow molding.

DMDEE is an amine catalyst that is isocyanate stable. DMDEE is used in one component moisture cured applications in CASE.

DMDEE is a highly selective blowing catalyst and mainly used in one component applications, like 1-K Spray foam or 1-K Adhesives.

Due to the specific structure the nitrogen is sterically hindered by the morpholine ring the reaction of polyol with isocyanate as well as other side reactions are hardly activated.

DMDEE, Dimorpholinodiethylether is a polyurethane catalyst.

Dimorpholinodiethylether is a strong blowing catalyst with low gelling activity.

Therefore, Dimorpholinodiethylether is a preferred catalyst for one-component polyurethane systems (OCF and prepolymers) with long shelf life.

Instructions for Storage The solidification point of TEGOAMIN DMDEE is below -20 C, i. e. storage temperatures fluctuating around 0 C do not cause any deterioration of the material.
Nevertheless it is recommended to bring the material to room temperature before the material is used.
For TEGOAMIN DMDEE we guarantee a shelf life of at least 12 months upon delivery under the condition, that it is stored in factory-packed containers and protected against extreme weather conditions, particularly against heat and moisture.
After a prolonged storage of TEGOAMIN DMDEE the color of the product may change to slightly yellow or brownish, however, the catalytic activity remains unchanged.
Application For many years TEGOAMIN DMDEE has been known in the polyurethane foaming industry as a well approved catalyst, specially supporting the water / isocyanate reaction.
TEGOAMIN DMDEE is mainly used in the production of foams, e.g. polyester polyurethane foams or one component foams where on one hand the so-called “gas reaction” is promoted, but on the other hand the influence on the so-called “cross-linking reaction” is minor.
Due to the almost not existing gelling / cross-linking activity, TEGOAMIN DMDEE provides a very long shelf life when used in prepolymers.

HANDLING AND STORAGE
DMDEE catalyst is a high-quality amine product which performs in urethane formulations when properly stored and handled.
Please refer to our bulletin on Storage and Handling ofCatalysts and the Safety DatanSheet on this product for necessary information.
MOISTURE CURE ELASTOMERS
Moisture cure elastomers are finding increased use applications as adhesives, glues, hard set polymers and coatings.
These systems are typically single component and require excellent stability of the amine catalyst with the isocyanate
DMDEE is a weak catalyst for polyurethane formulations.
Due to the specific structure DMDEE is a very selective catalyst.
As the nitrogen is stericallyhindered by the morpholine ring the reaction of polyol with isocyanate as well as other sidereactions are hardly activated.
On the other hand the nitrogen-ethylether structural unit highlyactivates the water/isocyanate reaction.
Based on this selectivity DMDEE is the first choice for moisture cured one-component formulations.
Even when used in relatively high amounts it does not affect the shelf life time of the final product in respect to viscosity increase or curing rate.
It is recommended to use DMDEE for moisture cured adhesive, sealants aswell as for foams.
Additionally, DMDEE can be used as a weak, but veryselective catalyst for two component polyurethane foams.
Recommended Dosage
The dosage has to be adjusted to the formulation to reachthe required reaction profile.
Usually dosage levels of DMDEE are in the range of 0,5 to 2,5 php (parts on100 parts polyol).
Product Safety and Handling
DMDEE is an amine and has a slightly basic character. Avoid contact witheyes or skin
PU Amine Catalysts
Polycat, Dabco
Product description
The Dabco and Polycat products from EVONIK are amine based catalysts for polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) applications.
Amine catalysts balance the various reactions during the formation of polyurethane, help to reduce foam defects and influence the physical characteristics and quality of the final product.
Additionally to standard amine catalysts such as TEDA, DMDEE or PMDETA, the product portfolio contains non-emissive catalysts to meet Certipur, LGA or Oeko-Tex requirements or to meet OEM emission specifications such as VDA 278. Those catalysts are sold under Dabco NE brand and reduce the environmental impact of PUR formulations.
Under the Dabco TMR brand various trimerisation and curing catalysts designed as synergists for conventional catalysts are subsumed. They support the trimerisation reaction, provide strong back end curing and smooth rise profiles. Some of these grades are optimized to have low odour, delayed activity or better adhesion.
The Polycat brand contains gel, blow and balanced catalysts for high performance foam reactions such as spray foam or insulation panels.
The Polycat SA range subsumes thermo-activated catalysts which can be used when a delayed reaction and a long pot life is required. The exothermic polyurethane reaction or an external heat source can activate these catalysts at defined temperatures. Combinations of Polycat SA catalysts can provide a tailor-made balance between front-end delay and fast back-end cure.
Types of PU foams requiring amine catalysts are flexible slabstock, flexible moulded foams, rigid lamination, spray foam or shoe sole systems. Non-cellular applications are elastomers, coatings, adhesives, sealants or cast resins.
Besides our amine catalysts we also offer metal catalysts, silicone surfactants, curing agents, colour pastes and other performance additives from EVONIK for PUR formulations.
