Butylhydroxyoxostannane (TIB KAT 220) is a liquid catalyst that is used in the production of plasticizers, saturated and unsaturated polyesters and in the curing of polyurethane based powder coatings.
TIB KAT 220 has a tin content of 18.8-20.6%.

Use of TIB KAT 220
TIB KAT 220 Butylhydroxyoxostannane can be used as a catalyst in polycondensation reactions, esterification reactions or transesterification reactions, reducing the time required or the reaction temperature.
Butylhydroxyoxostannane exhibits demonstrably good catalytic activity at temperatures between 80 and 150 °C.
For example, it is used in the production of saturated and unsaturated polyester resins and can remain in the final product without affecting its properties at a proportional maximum of 0.2%.
Additional filtering out of TIB KAT 220 is unnecessary.
Butylhydroxyoxostannane0 is also used to process urethanes, reducing the curing temperature to 140 – 160 °C.
Further application options for the catalyst can be found in ring-opening polymerization reactions or in the synthesis of aromatic polyester polyols for both flexible and rigid polyurethane foams.
Economic Significance
Butylhydroxyoxostannane can be used as a catalyst in a wide range of applications. Among them are polyester resins for powder coatings and coil coatings, polyurethanes for adhesives and sealants, as well as use in paints and coatings.
It is a binder in oleochemistry and is generally used as a process additive in various chemical processes, such as the production of plasticizers. It is also used as a catalyst in the synthesis of dioctyl phthalates.
Some products containing TIB KAT 220 are food grade. The tin compound can therefore be used as a catalyst for the production of cross-linked polyester resins that regularly come into contact with food.
Transport and Storage
Monobutyltin tri-(ethylhexanoate) is available in various types of packaging, for example in 25 kg containers. Care should be taken to avoid contact with ambient moisture when the containers are open. In unopened original packaging it can be stored for at least 6 months without loss of quality.
Storage
Butylhydroxyoxostannane can be stored at least one year if kept closed in the original packaging. Sensitive to frost.
